Emirates Gas Joins ’Clean Up UAE 2009’ Campaign To Create Better Environment

Volunteers from Emirates Gas, a subsidiary of Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), participated in the annual "Clean Up UAE 2009" campaign organised by Emirates Environment Group.

The campaign aimed at promoting general awareness among members of the community on sustainable environmental protection practices that assure safer, cleaner and “greener” environment for generations to come. It also aimed at strengthening the value and sense of social responsibility in individuals and corporations towards protecting the environment.

"Clean Up UAE 2009" was staged at various locations to cover the vast and diverse landscapes in the UAE. Thirty-five employees from Emirates Gas supported the campaign by cleaning up in Dubai Investment Park area. The company"s volunteers engaged in a range of activities, including clean up of local streets and landscapes.

Hesham Ali Mustafa, General Manager, Emirates Gas, said: “The Emirates Environmental Group is leading the way in protecting the environment. Emirates Gas is privileged to give back to the society and take part in this campaign, which comes in line with our continuous efforts to encourage environment-friendly practices to enhance the quality of life of residents in Dubai and the UAE.”

“The initiative strengthened the spirit of team work and instilled the sense of responsibility amongst our employees, who wore the official campaign t-shirts and gloves, and collected rubbish in biodegradable plastic bags,” Mustafa added.

Launched in 2002, "Clean Up UAE 2009" spreads a message of hope and encouragement to people of different ages and social levels, to address the most pressing environment challenges of the country, including its high per capita waste generation, water consumption and wastage, and a huge ecological footprint.

Through this campaign, all these urgent issues are highlighted and an open call is sent to all members of the community to take part in protecting the environment. Over 15,000 volunteers participated in the environment from all over the seven emirates in the UAE.
